In the Beginning …

It all started when I was eight years old and the SV Concordia was docked in my home town, Steveston, BC. My swim coach took us on a tour of the ship and told us stories of his adventures while abroad with Class Afloat. Ever since that day, joining West Island College has been my dream and that dream has become my reality. In August, I will depart for Kristiansand, Norway to begin this amazing journey. Eight months, twenty-two ports and an incredible voyage lies ahead.

I would like to give a heart-felt thank you to my swim coach who inspired me, my teachers who motivated me, my friends who encouraged me, my family who endlessly supported me and my loving mother who finally gave up trying to stop me.

To the Class Afloat Memorial Scholarship Fund contributors, I thank you one hundred times over. Your generosity is sincerely appreciated.

Now, all that remains is to fit eight months worth of supplies into one, very small sailing bag. Wish me luck!
